Columbia High School Hall of Fame
Alumni Commons
Designed to foster collaboration and support, the new Alumni Commons provides areas for students to congregate, study, receive tutoring, and enjoy lunch. Equipped with resources like a SLAM lab offering assistance in STEM subjects during lunch periods and tutoring provided by the Achieve Foundation, the space greatly enhances student experience at Columbia High School.
Columbia High School has a long history, with many of our nation's greatest legends passing through its halls. The transformation of Columbia High School’s former pool into the new Alumni Commons created versatile spaces that honor alumni while meeting the evolving needs of students. Faced with the high costs of building a new pool and the impracticality of repairing the outdated facility, the district embraced the opportunity to reimagine the area. Now, the Alumni Commons serves as a vibrant hub for juniors and seniors to collaborate, study, receive tutoring, and build community.
Preserving the iconic Guastavino-vaulted ceiling as a nod to the school’s fabled history, the space is a tribute to the achievements of alumni from Columbia High School. This transformation is part of the district’s Long-Range Facilities Plan, addressing both budgetary realities and the growing student population. By prioritizing a space that fosters academic support and community building, Columbia High School has created a legacy-focused environment that celebrates its past while investing in the future of its students.
