CORE SUBJECTS IN FRESHMAN ACADEMY

The Freshman Academy at Columbia High School emphasizes core academic subjects, including English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, essential for foundational knowledge. Each subject is tailored to meet the needs of ninth-graders, ensuring engagement and understanding.

FRESHMAN FYE COURSE

The Freshman Academy offers a 1.25-credit, self-paced First Year Experience course on Canvas, covering study skills, time management, digital literacy, school policies, and personal branding, with flexible modules students can complete at their own pace.

CURRICULUM DESIGNED FOR SUCCESS

The curriculum in the Freshman Academy is structured to reinforce foundational knowledge, preparing students not only for high school but also for future academic challenges. It encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary for success.

*Every freshman will participate in an Executive Function class at some point during the school year. This class will run for three weeks, meeting two days each week during lunch. The focus will be on helping students build essential skills such as organization, time management, goal setting, and effective study strategies.
