POLICES AND EXPECTATIONS

IMPORTANCE OF ATTENDANCE

Attendance is vital for academic success at Columbia High School. Students are expected to be present in all classes, as consistent attendance fosters engagement and participation in learning activities. Effective attendance policies are designed to ensure students are held accountable for their presence in school.

ABSENCE AND TARDINESS POLICIES

The school implements clear policies on absences and tardiness. Students must have parents report any absences, and unverified absences may result in disciplinary actions. Students arriving late are expected to check in at the attendance office to avoid penalties.

Per state law, students must attend at least 90% of class sessions in order to receive credit for a course. Full-year course: Up to 18 verified absences are allowed Half-year course: Up to 9 verified absences are allowed Quarter course: Up to 5 verified absences are allowed

ACCOUNTABILITY POLICIES

Accountability policies at Columbia High School are designed to promote a positive learning environment. Students who violate attendance rules may face consequences, including detentions or loss of participation in extracurricular activities, reinforcing the importance of responsibility and respect within the school community.
